Problems with instrument cluster swap

I have a 91 Civic hatch with the 1.6 DOHC VTEC. Originally the car was a cx (droped the motor in last december) so I purchased a gauge cluster out of a 91 Si so I would have the tach. I installed it yesterday, and the tach doesn't work and the seatbelt light stays on, all the other gauges and lights seem to work fine. I was told they would swap right out and all should work fine and that the gauge set I bought worked great in the car it came out of. Any ideas?? Also for years the horn, and instruments lights haven't worked (only turn signal, fuel, seatbelt and such lights have worked), fuses are fine, as are all the bulbs. Any ideas on this problem? Thanks for any help.

Re: Problems with instrument cluster swap

was the cluster from a 90-91 Si or a 88-89 coz the 88-89 will need rewiring if it is.....

doesnt the B16 has a Vss speedo drive and the Si Cable?

Re: Problems with instrument cluster swap

I bought it online and the seller told me his "certified mechanic" said it would swap right out. He said it was out of a 91, but it doesn't fit perfectly under the gauge hood (so that makes me wonder) and the large wiring clip on the driver side was still attached when I got it, the wires do seem to be different (clips the same) but I was hoping that was just because it came from an Si and I had a cx. So does this mean I need to cut and rewire? if so how hard is that, or is it just a matter of matching the clip wires up with matching colored wires on the harness?

Re: Problems with instrument cluster swap

if it was out of a 90-91 it would fit in no probs, and as u say it doesnt fit snug, i think you have bought an 88-89 one im afraid, sell it on or trade it for a 90-91

Re: Problems with instrument cluster swap

thanks for the help, no its not snug doesn't quite go all the way to the top. I'm guessing not worth the effort to rewire, makes sense. thanks for the help. any idea about the problem with the other lights and horn not working? if any bulb is out on that circuit would that cause all not to work? Thanks again.

Re: Problems with instrument cluster swap

yeha you definately have a 88-89 if you have a gap at the top, just trade it for a different one, well fit your old cluster back in and see if everything works again then start from there mate
