2001 alero won't start, engine light stays lit
Hi,
Sometimes my car takes a long time before the engine starts...it revs for 3-5 secs before it kicks in. Recently, I was trying to start it..the lights came on, the engine light stayed lit but nothing happens. After many tries it starts but this always seems like the luck of the draw. When I turn the key I think I ear the fuel pump but the starter isn't turning. The dealer changed the ignition switch but it still does it. Please help! |

Maybe Its your bcm Or another my moms car did the samething and they replaced it under the warranty they replaced it twice and had to do it again because they got a bad part from the factory no only that they had to replace the windshield because it leaked and fried everything so if i was u i would take your car through a car was a good one that has alot of high pressure coming out and watch for the leak

I think it might be a problem with the shifter or something related. It acts just like when you try to start a car while in gear.

Before you start the car, put the transmission in neutral and see if it will start any easier. If it does, I would say you have a problem with the starter safety switch.

BTW, the engine light will always stay on as long as the ignition is in the 'ON' position without the engine running. Your light being on in this situation is normal.

After 2-3 weeks the real culprit finally showed up ! (Of course my girlfriend had to be gone with the car somewhere far for it to break down) It was the starter all along. I have a feeling it was a problem with the "cellanoid" (I spelled it like it sounds)
