Car won't start.

Hello fella's...
I'm a newbie. im driving my 87 escort and its doin fine. Then i park and turn off the car, later i try to start it, and ... nothing. cept for this clicking noise . Sounds like its comming from the 2 relays (if your looking under the hood from the from of the car) on the back left corner.

There is something def wrong tho... my lights on high dont dim when i try and start that car. cant be the battery??

by the way, i can barley fit under the car , even with a jack and i cant find the starter to bang on it =)

Any help would be nice. i work 16+ hours a day so please email me your respones @ [email protected]

thx for the help guys. in advance

Re: Car won't start.

Hi,
I just came here looking for answers too. I have a 98 escort.. same problem.. You can't see the starter because it mounted on top of the engine, in the back,,facing the firewall. You have to remove the Master Cylinder just to see one of the bolts that hold it in. Tip # 1 Don't replace it, Its not the problem.....Next.. I'm suspecting a ignition kill relay that was incorporated into the "Silencer" alarms system which the dealer had deactivated.
try this... the next time it shuts down. turn the key and try to start by turning the key 3 or 4 times then turn off, remove key and do it again... when the door locks, the car should start fine. so far that tricks been getting it for past couple of days. It does sound like a relays clicking too on my car when its no crank. Let me know how that does and if you even have a alarm system in your car. This will help me eliminate my Theory about the alarm and look closer at that the Ignition Switch and if any, relays for that system. I going to disconnected my alarm box today.. drop me a line... as soon as I track the problem down I'll pull your coat tail

Peace
Tony

Re: Car won't start.

i had that once come to find out the (new) battery was shorted internally. Put new battery in and car was fine. (after replacing the starter and solinoid to find it was only the battery)

Re: Car won't start.

Any time I've a had that kind fo problem, adjusting my terminal connections on my battery fixed it right up. Cleaning the terminals and getting new clamps fix it completely, hasn't happened since.
