92 Explorer AC clutch not engaging

Any help or suggestions will do! =)


Last summer I had my whole AC system converted, and with BRAND NEW parts.Then this problem came up, sometimes the compressor would come on and other times it wouldnt. I live in TX and AC is a MUST HAVE!
Since it was under warranty I kept taking it back.....the mechanics couldn't figure it out. Is there an inline-fuse that goes to the compressor? I would appreciate any feedback! =)

It is kinda tough trying to diagnose what is going on without actually being there. Is it that sometimes the A/C works and sometimes it doesn't? Or is the A/C clutch clicking on and off with the switch left on? My opinion is that there is a slight leak somewhere. I figure they would have caught this. Do you know if leak detecting dye was installed in the system? This'll help to determine if there is a leak. Also, there are numerous switches and relays that could also cause problems. There are low pressure cutoff switches, high pressure cutoff switches, the actual A/C switch you turn on, A/c relays, etc (depending on the system). How many times has it been back in for the same problem? When you had the system converted, what was exactly changed? Did they change the compressor, accumulator, evaporator, liquid line (orifice tube), manifold hose assembly, condensor? Or did they just retro it by using conversion fittings, evacuating and cleaning the system and then charging it with R134? Were only a few items changed? If the car has been back more than three or four times, talk to the owner about working out some sort of deal. If these guys can't fix it, they should pay for someone who can.

Thanks for the reply...sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. If I remember correctly they did use the dye to check for leaks. None were found. All that you mentioned in your reply was changed....I spent ALOT of money on it. Thanks again....i think this might help!! =)

Thanks for the help.....THANK GOD it was totally EMPTY of freon. YAY!!!! =)
