PICS of the GT convertible done!

Yeah, I know it's only got 1 seat in it :-P Gotta buy the 2nd one still. Rims have a bit of brake dust on em from driving it around so much. This is before the paint job and body kit I have lined up for it. Those should all be on and ready by next spring. Here's the candy

Looks good man. Have you considered a Swift center plate for in between the tail lamps so that the colors match? You can still get the Geo decal from Chevrolet to apply to the new one. Just my personal preference though. I love to fly the Geo flag. lol.

Thanks Yeah, I've got the swift centerpiece already. I've got a few other plans (backlighting it) for it before I put it on though. The colors would match up a bit better. The power from this motor is unbelievable. It's no longer a stock motor, it has a TON of internal work and headwork done. It will blow through first and second gear in just a couple seconds, and it'll break the tires loose shifting into 3rd. 1/4 mile times are a month or 2 away yet tho. Gotta find some time to take her to the strip.

LOL, i got a funny story about that. Last night, she looked at me, and asked if she could drive it to work today. I just stared at her for about 30 seconds. And she then said "That was a stupid question, wasn't it?" lol. So no, she's never touching that car, ever.

What size tires are you running on the bad boy? Poor girl didn't run screaming from the room after you just stared at her?

Unhappy

well fuc#@! I had a nice combo with the 4.39:1 final drive using the convertible tranny. It was torquey as hell, and swept through the gears quick. I now know that's a fragile tranny. Friday night it blew the differential apart. It couldn't handle all the extra power. The 3cyl crown gear is about 5/8" wide, while the GT diff is about 1 3/8" wide. SO yea, I stripped the crown gear, cracked the pinion gear, and blew the diff bearing apart on the freeway doin about 115mph, heh. So I spent my saturday rebuilding my 3.89:1 gearbox (4.11 GTi box is still injured, and needs a synchro transplant) and slapping that in. Just to give you an idea of the HUGE difference these make. The convertible 4.39 box@70mph ran the engine at about 4500RPM's, and 5,100@80mph, and topped out at my 7400RPM rev limiter in 5th at just over 120. The 3.89 box @70mph runs about 3400RPM's. At 120, it's still crankin about 5700. So overall, i'll get a much higher top end, but I'll lose about .4 seconds in my 1/4 mile time. And yea, I missed the saturday races at the drag strip I was planning on goin to, so no timeslip yet .
Oh, and the tires are 195/50ZR15's (were new, now almost bald) lol

I'll bet that was one spectacular failure! Did your blood pressure go up about twenty points!

well, it's up to about 30 points now. Still in the process of fixing it (waiting for the drill to charge back up, and my arc welder to cool down). My drivers side tranny mount ripped itself right outta the frame today. Put a nice 1" hole in the frame rail. Had to build a new 1/4" thick steel plate, cut the frame rail open, weld a M12X1.25 nut to the plate(the M10 is too small for the torque I believe) and drill the motor mount out to fit the 12mm bolt. This swap is having a few more aftershocks than expected . And I could imagine there's still more to come.
