Take apart a laptop?

Is it possible to take apart a laptop so that the monitor is seperate from the keyboard? I've never owned a laptop so I don't know much about them. Can you update the hardrive and video card on a lap?

i wouldn't touch it myself. take a laptop into the shop. with a desktop its much easier, but what i've heard for a while is that you shouldn't fiddle with laptops unless you really know what you're doing

I used to do PC and latop repair. You can remove the screen assembly and even the LCD portion of the screen itself from the main laptop unit but I don't recommend doing so unless you know what you're doing. Each laptop manufacturer is different so they use different methods of assembly so the tools you use and how they're dissasembled can be entirely different from one another.

You can't update the video on a laptop. It's physically soldered to the mainboard and the only slots are the PCMCIA slots for peripherals like NIC's or modems, etc. You can, however, upgrade the hard drive.

you can upgrade RAM too. i have an ibm thinkpad.... its crazy, they're like made to be taken apart into little pieces because every part of it can be disassembled

if you're asking the question then the answer is no. If you didn't ask the question then you would know the answer is yes.

You could possibly take it apart but why? Yes you can upgrade most anything in the laptop but let the techs do that. If you touch a single part inside your laptop you will fry it.. The problems arent always instant but over time your laptop will just die. so DONT take it apart yourself unless you know what you are doing and DONT touch any of the inside parts unless you know how to handle them correctly. There is a thing called ESD that is a computers worst enemy and if you cause it in a computer your F****D.

That aside, ESD can be prevented by wearing a grounded wrist strap or placing the PC on a rubber mat. They sell both at most computer specialty stores.
