DVC Subs on a Mono amp.

Ive been sitting here confused about how to match Dual Voice Coils with one amp...on 2 subs I mean. Im planning on getting a Alpine Tpe-X which is Dual 4 ohm coils...whereas a Type-R is the same thing, except one of those couldnt handle my 1501D so I would of course get 2. My question is if you have 4 coils to run (2 subs x 2 coils) and theyre all 4 ohm...would I be able to run it off of a 1100x1 at 2 ohm amp? I wouldnt think that you would be a separate amp just cause the sub has 2 voice coils. And another question...what would work with a Dual 2 ohm sub...unless thats what I would need to get for this to be able to work. Thanks.

With Dual 4 ohm you can run 1 ohm (parallel), 4 ohm (parallel/series), and 16 ohm (series). With Dual 2 ohm you can run .5 ohm (paralell), 2 ohm (parallel/series), and 8 ohm (series).

Re: DVC Subs on a Mono amp.

correct, so if you got the dual 4ohm subs, you could not use that 1100x1 @ 2ohm amp (well you could, but you'd have to run it at 4ohm and get 550x1 instead). You would need either a 1ohm stable mono amp or a very powerful 2ch amp. If you got the dual 2ohm version then you would need a 2ohm stable mono amp.
