Something dumb that I did

Yesterday after completing the masking of the windows. I pulled of the tape to find out that there was tape residue left on the car. So I decided to put the car into the dunk tank. Well later that night my wife and I sat down and figured out what happened. When I was masking the window I had the light to close to where I was working. The light heated up the tape and when I pulled the tape off I had the residue. I know that this is probably a dumb mistake and some people might already know about this or had this happen to them. I thought that I would post this and maybe I will stop atleast one person from making the same mistake that I did.

Well here is a picture of how close the car was to the light.

That really sucks. Were you able to salvage anything. Now I don't feel to bad about what I did.

I was painting, and my I forgot to change the two heat lamps I use (one for metal one for plastic) and my friend caught it just in time for me to fix it.

Re: Something dumb that I did

i accidentally cut a slot in the roof of a model with my magnifying glass. i got distracted while working on it and it just so happened that the angle i left the lens at was in perfect position to the window behind my desk that the sun cut about a 1/2" notch in it. the other thing was i had just finished painting it too.

oh well lesson learned.

Being somewhat older, and dumber, than you young things, I need a magnifier light for close-up work on my models. At such close range, the light bulb heats the body and, if I'm not careful, messes up tape, makes polish dry to quickly, and changes the chemical properties of the glue. The worse thing I've done is burn a hole in the hood while messing around with some detail on the trunk.
