AFTER DARK?
What the fuck? On our restricted we can drive until 10pm. Has an online petition ever worked?

Re: If you have a drivers licence, please read.
Online petitions are a waste of time.TheAustralian government is only going to pay attention to the opinions of genuine Aussie voters, and even then if they feel that the safety considerations of their legislation add up,they won't be swayed by public opinion.P- plate drivers[newly qualified licence holders, for those who don't know] are the most at-risk group on the roads. Ever wondered why your insurance premiums are so high davo? it's because you are statistically proven to be a bad risk. Please don't tell me that you are the greatest driver ever born, that's part of the problem.Too many teenage drivers consider themselves to be ten feet tall and bullet proof while driving.I've prrobably clicked up close to a million k's since I started driving, and the experiences that Ihave had have convinced me that Ireally am an average sort of driver.
The notion that those on restricted licences should not be allowed to drive after dark does sound a bit odd though....if you are not allowed to do something because of inexperience, how are you ever supposed to get that experience? I think the NZ government has it right.A workable curfew is far better than a blanket ban.If this inconveniences a bona fide minority, too bad.The majority of the population, including those who are being inconvenienced, deserves to be protected from the minority at the other end of the skill scale who have yet to realise their limitations. |

My hint: Drive a mid-90's Japanese economy car at extremely sedate speeds and you'll never get pulled over.
That's what I learnt on my restricted..... But the method of advancing from L to P plates in Australia is a joke and I wouldn't sign the petition. Sorry. |

Ha thats sad, ours was set at midnight and if you had someone riding shotgun that had their license for 2 years you could stay out as late as you want.

yeah when I had my restristed licence, it was 8:00 I think, but if you were with a parent or a licensed driver then it didn't matter... also another thing to look into is here if you are going to and from work you can still drive past the curfew, just keep a note in your glovebox from your boss stating your hours if you are really worried if not just tell the cop you are coming home from work and he may or may not let you go.
edit: this is in New York.

Re: If you have a drivers licence, please read.
Wow that sucks. Here in GA (U.S.) they don't let introductory drivers have ANY passengers in the car for 3-6 months. Then it's like 1-2 allowed (only family). It's crazy, but no one obeys it.

America Learner's permits change everywhere but curfew based on a license? In VaBch fro just bein under 18 it was 11-5 now it's 12-4 so big deal there. Dont see why we even have one but yeah, the way the age is for your licenses is weird.
Idk Dave, I'd sign it, but it ain't my country and Naki is right (on some things ) that online petitions are bleh

Re: If you have a drivers licence, please read.
Hmm lets see..
In IL, you are prohibited from driving after dark with a learner's permit (how are you going to learn then?). The curfew for 17 and under is 11pm on the weekday and 12pm for the weekend; unless you can prove you are coming home from work.

Re: If you have a drivers licence, please read.
In BC the regulations for L7 class prohibit driving between dusk and dawn. A driver 25 years old older who has a class 5 must be in the passenger seat at all times and there can be only one other passenger. After being in the class for 1 year you can get a N7, which you must have for 24 months before getting a class 5 license. luckly I got into the system right before those changes were made, so I don't have to follow them.
