no cat straight pipe..? WORTH IT?

i have i/h/e/crank pulley/intake manifold/camgears/skunk 2 ecu... on a b16a motor but im using a stock dx 1.5 cat...

for 40 bux i can get my cat cut off and weld a 2 1/4 pipe where the car was at i know it's gonna give me a good power gain about 5 to 8 hp maybe more but is it worth it my exhaust isnt very loud rite now but im sure after this it WILL BE just curious what you all think

my friend has a ls and he dynoed before and after before he had 122 hp after he did it he put down 128 hp so he got 6 wheel hp from it ? but his car was loud before and now its HORRIBLY LOUD sounds like ASS

crx with no cat

i have an 89 crx with a b16. my exhuast is bosal speed and i had my cat taken out and a pipe made. i dont really notice that much more noise at lower rpms, i notice more of a deep throaty rumble at higher rpms, it does not sound bad at all, in fact i've had die hard muscle car guys compliment me on the way my car sounds. i also notice a pretty large increase in power, more-so than i did with my intake and my exhuast put together.

well the high flow cat that i have is basically a test pipe with just a resinator built into it, im getting the same power from the high flow cat as i was with my test pipe, but with the high flow cat it makes less noise.

Re: no cat straight pipe..? WORTH IT?

I have a stock B16 and I removed the catalytic converter and welded a straight pipe. What happened? Nothing. Absolutely Nothing. No HP Gain, No sound Gain, No nothing.

take your car to a muffler shop and tell them to take your resinator off, its a silencer thats between the cat and the muffler, and i'm pretty sure it will make a difference.

worth it for me

I have a stock civic 1 3/4" exhaust system. I had the resonator taken out and a LS muffler put on. Now when I am accelerating, my car sounds really good. It has a deep growl to it, not that pussy ass whining sound. I am however getting ready to get new exhaust. I am going DC headers, OBX hi flow cat, and custom 2 1/2" straight pipe with a Y pipe for the dual appearance, and chrome tips. I have enjoyed my exhaust thus far but it is time to make it badass, especially since I am going to be getting a B18 swap.
