TPS or oxygen sensor?
ive gotten 2 CEL codes at different times oxygen sensor and TPS out of range, but mostly TPS out of range. this is what the car does, every once in awhile i start it up and it will almost die then rev back up, then i hit the gas and hold it down and it bounces between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm and it will backfire, other times when im driving it will start jerking till i take it out of gear and hold the gas down and let it backfire. does anybody know which sensor it might be? i dont ever really get either code anymore and i think the oxygen sensor one just came on cause i gutted my cat out, that one only came on once. but im not sure if its any sensor or if it might be something else.
its a 95 SOHC 5 speed if that helps at all

Re: TPS or oxygen sensor?
Replace your TPS
The TPS indirectly controls the gas flow going into the engine by signalling the ECM with more voltage for a more depressed gas pedal. When bad/marginal, they spike (out of range) and the ECM has to guess at the amount of gas to give the engine (and usually it will be too much). You'll notice your gas mileage will be way off too. This explains the oxygen sensor going off too. |
