Window Problem

I have a 96 Passat and the drivers power window won't go up all the way without some help. It gets to within an inch of the top and starts making a chattering sound. Any ideas? Do I need to replace the regulator?

Re: Window Problem

I have a Passat and mine has the same problem... there are teeth that run the window regulator and a couple of teeth are worn on it and it will cause a stuttering sound, then when you put it up all the way, hit the button it will go the rest of the way and hold it there... I hope this helps.

I also have a 96 TDI and I had to change my driver side window regulator.

I got a used one in good shape from Vortex and did it myself.

It's not that hard, all you need is a philips head screw driver and a 10 mm socket.

Re: Window Problem

Thanks so much for your help on the window problem. I bought a new regulator on the web for $84.00 and installed it in about forty five minutes.
