91 braking problem-plz help!!

my son's 91 has a braking problem. hubby has checked it out and finds this--no leaks in lines; brakes clear; sounds like electric pump not kicking on. it's making a noise. doesn't seem to be building pressure. what he would like to know is the pump and master cylinder all one piece or are they seperate unit? is there anything else he needs to be looking for? thanks all...your help has been wonderful in the past.

Re: 91 braking problem-plz help!!

the abs module and master cylinder are separate pieces. If the master cylinder is not creating pressure, the abs motor will click as it tries to cycle, but shows no pressure. Does the pedal sink to the floor or feel spongy or hard??? if so, check the master cylinder first, its way cheaper and easier than an abs motor.
