Are Alarms with Pagers worth it?

Just bought an 01 Accord LX sedan, and am worried about theft in my city. Im going to get an alarm installed this week. I was looking at local stereo shop ads, and there are pager alarms for $150 installed. For my old car, i bought the typical alarm about 4 years ago for the same price (keyless entry, ignition kill, panic mode, etc). I was wondering if i should stick with the basic alarm with this new car, or go with the pager (how good can it be if its only $150?)

Re: Are Alarms with Pagers worth it?

pager alarm for 150?? my buddy had one installed and it was 350.. and i think that was the lower model that they offered. he liked the pager feature very much.. but the sensors were all wacky and even after going back 2 times his alarm and/or warning would still go off for no reason. he had it removed and got his money back. but thats probably something to do with the installers more so than the actual alarm

Re: Are Alarms with Pagers worth it?

Well i forgot to mention its Los Angeles and theres a stereo shop in every corner selling alarms lol. But im sure itll come with a lifetime warranty so theyll fix anything. For 150 though, it probably doesnt have all the optional relays and sensors so some things might be exxtra like remote start and keyless entry and whatever, so it might come out as 200 installed. Worth it, or should i go with the typical alarm for around 150 installed (remote start, ignition kill, keyless entry, panic mode, shock sensor, lifetime warranty, etc..basicly everything that the pager alarm has except the pager)

Pager alarms are worth it. If you pay 150.00 for it its not. Check the brand name first. Buy something with a good reputation.

Re: Are Alarms with Pagers worth it?

The first alarm i got for 150, the basic one i got about 4 years ago didnt really have a brand name "Delta" never heard of it before, but it works perfectly and never messed up and if it did lifetime warranty the shop will fix it.. so i dont kno about if name brands matter that much over heree, anyway?

Re: Are Alarms with Pagers worth it?

i just got a viper pager alarm on my 97 accord. and already it has paid off. it went off the other day and i walked out and saw some guy run off.

what good is an alarm if you can't hear it going off. now a, especially in big cities, people will glance at your car but not do a damn thing if the alarm is going off.

pay the extra money, get a name brand pager alarm. you won't regret it.

you should just hire a bum and give him a gun and tell him to watch your car when you're at work then. haha

Re: Are Alarms with Pagers worth it?

pager alarms work off of FM signals if im correct? So if someone hits your car in the parking lot and your in the mall.. will it reach your remote and tell you? Also on the pager display, if the alarm goes off does it page you telling you the door is open or just that some1 hit the door of your car? Like is there different sensors for every part to show you whats been hit or is it just whats opened like a door trunk or hood? :-/ confused

Well, yes and no. It depends on the alarm processor and the installer. DEI alarms have different "zones" for hood, trunk, impact and such. The problem is some shops don't install them correctly and hook them up so yes they trigger but shows the wrong zone. Do a search on Viper 791xp and read what I am saying

I second ponchonutty and add that DEI Viper has the best two way alarm.

Re: Are Alarms with Pagers worth it?

does $225 installed sound about right for a pager alarm? The brand is delta, and comes with a 5 year warranty, 2 remotes. Any ideas?
