1972 Dodge Charger
I recently bought a 1972 Charger with a 318 V-8. the car runs nice but 318 cid? I don't think so. I wanna put in a 440cid. My question is "will a 440 fit?" i think it would since in '72 440 was an option, But i just wann see what if anyone has made a swap like this or somthing similar and would sare with me what you've learned.

Re: 1972 Dodge Charger
The 440 should fit. The Charger was made as a big engine muscle car. The only question left is. Six-pack or no six-pack. Good luck and NICE car.

Awsome, thanks guys. As for Six-pack, I don't know if I can afford it, I had to save my pennies for almost 2 years to just buy the car (I'm 19). Anyways will I have to replace the transmission as well or will it work ok with the 440?

Re: 1972 Dodge Charger
I figured I could add this.
If I were doing this, I'd find a 440 with a transmisson attached to it if possible. Less crap to put up with, if you know what I mean. Either a 440 with a 727 auto or a 833 4 gear. If the motor was recently running in a car, that's peace of mind as well. You should be able to buy this motor and transmission, throw it on the back of a truck, take it to the car, and put it directly into the car. Unless you know the transmission is shot and needs to be redone, or something's wrong with the motor and it needs work. Of course, life isn't always easy like that, and you might need to make some adjustments or perform some work on your new motor/tranny, but if it's ready to be dropped in, you're one step ahead. You'll be able to bolt everything up, hook up all your existing wiring, fuel lines, heater hoses, rad hoses, etc and go for a ride. I'm 19 too. Herzeleid like the Rammstein album?

Re: 1972 Dodge Charger
I do not believe that the 440 will not fit right in. (but that may just be the 73-74 model years) they will require either a BB k frame and the appropriate mounts or conversion mounts from schumaker.
The charger board will help |

Re: 1972 Dodge Charger
I have a 440 in my 73. A 440 will drop in any rig that had a 400 or 383. If it's a small block rig, now. Then the K frame, tranny and mounts will have to be changed. The drive shaft will have to be altered, also. As the small block trans is shorter than the BB.
