Rattling trunk

Hey, '95 SE here. My problem: on freeway bumps, the trunk lid goes up and down and makes a "rattling" clicking noise. I can duplicate the noise slowly when I push down on the trunk when the car is parked, so it's coming from the metal in the latch as the lid bobs up and down on bumps. I just replaced the little rubber bumpers on the sides of the lid, but it didn't solve the problem. Is the trunk SUPPOSED to be able to be pressed down (like 1/2 inch) by hand? Or is it supposed to be a tight, snug fit? Do I need a new latch? Any suggestions, anyone?

Thanks,

Brian T.

Re: Rattling trunk

no u dont need a new latch...you just need to loosen the bolts that hold the latch to the body of the car...NOT the trunk deck itself, and slide that down about half as far as u can push down on the trunk. keep playin with it until it doesn't really move any if at all, but be sure u can close it and open it back up again...be careful about that...just slowly make the latch lower until you find the right height

Re: Rattling trunk

another thing it could be is if your rubber bumpers are adjustable...im not sure because on mine (an 89) they're not adjustable...if they are they can screw up or down...my old 92 grand prix had them...

Thank you very much, Matt! I'll look into that tomorow and let you know how it turns out.

Re: Rattling trunk

Hey Matt. You know what? The latch is not adjustable. That is, if you are talking about the latch on the trunk LID. I haven't looked at the bottom piece yet. I'm still confused about what causes the trunk lid to be held loosely.

Re: Rattling trunk

Okay, I fixed it! You WERE talking about the latch on the BOTTOM side, not the latch on the trunk lid, right? That's how I fixed it, but adjusting that one down, which, after a reread of your instructions is probably exactly what you were saying. Thanks man!
