Ford guy finds Lamborghini?

This isn't a ford story but bear with me you may find this to be as funny as I did.

I was leaving work Friday and as I pull off the parking lot I spot this purple Lamborghini parked out infront of this Hotel. Well being the gear head I am I had to stop pull over and go see it. I have always been a big fan of the Lamborghini and I could not believe this Diabolo was just sitting here downtown. From a distance this was a bad ass car as I got closer to it you could begin to see the cheese. Overspray on some of the rubber around the windows. Tech screw holding the window control and carpet in place on the center console was a sure sign this was an obvious kit car. Now I don't knock kit cars, after all I've looked into getting a Cobra kit car one day. Drop a 427 goto the track and strait embarrass folks. But anyway there is a for sale sign on the car so you know I had to call the guy.

He starts off telling me that it is a kit car and goes into this story about the work that went into the car and how much of an attention getter it is. Yeah right ok bring on the water. Turns out the car started off as an 84 fiero and it STILL HAD THE 4CYL 120,000 MILE MOTOR in it and he has added a supercharger. Now heres the good part he wants $50,000 dollars for it. Well after I picked myself off the floor laughing at him he pretty much realized I was'nt interested.

Now can you imagine driving something like that only to get your ass handed to you by the first honda civic that pulls up.

Re: Ford guy finds Lamborghini?

For what it's worth...

I own a 2000 Cobra R and a 1992 Diablo.

Other than image, and trying to impress the uneducated masses, I cannot understand how some people can sink a stupid amount of money on something like a Lambo kit(with fake intake enginebay parts, etc to try and cover up the fact it is a kit), when for the time and effort invested, you could find a real one to buy.

Oh well. To each his own.

Well I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Lamborghini anywhere close to $50 grand. Ok lets just say for the sake of argument that it would be impossible. For a used 92 your still looking at about $130 G for a car that produces 485hp out of a v12. Now the question is how bad do you want the look, there are several cars I can think of right off the top of my head that can produce similar horsepower for a lot less than $130 G ( example New Viper, Z06 vette and the new Cobra with a few mods will also put out close to 500HP

So if the Lamborghini look is what you want then obviously the kit is going to be your only option and like I said earlier I don't knock kits. I've seen some lamborghini kits that it was damn near impossible to tell simply looking at it on the street, this was not one of them. And if your going to build one you better have the resources and time to put a motor in it that will put out similar hp. Anything less and you look like boo boo the fool. You really look silly when you ask someone to fork over $50 G for something that will get outran by my wifes malibu.

Re: Ford guy finds Lamborghini?

I have nothing against buying or building a kit car. I get asked often if my cars are kits. That is when I open the hood and eliminate any doubts.

However, If you shop around and are patient, you can find some early Diablos well under $ 100K. I have seen a few in the low $70Ks. Look on Ebay, they are out there. The flip side is seeing completed kit cars running well into the same price ranges. Countach's can be found in the low $ 50Ks.

One big problem area on any exotic car is the cost of ownership. Parts, service and insurance can be expensive, so just because you own a highend car, does not mean you can afford to drive it. The kitcars fit this niche very well. You have the look but not all the headaches.

I agree, if you want the look, go for it. Just don't expect to be able to sell it for the same kind of money down the road.

When I did govt work, we used to call it the Gucci Syndrome = "Tis better to look good than to be good"

Dude Im buying them. Thats all there is to that. I called AFR today and they want $1375. For 400 hp it's worth it.

Ahh, to be able to hang with a new stock cobra and do it NA. Gives me a stiffy just thinking about it.

Re: Ford guy finds Lamborghini?

Makes me reconsider my windsor's little brother lol. A 302 would fit alot easier in my '66 then my 351 will. I was thinking maybe some AFR 185's, RPM Air-Gap, 600cfm Performer, and just enough hydro roller to get a lil lope. 400+hp in a 2900lb car, hope this doesnt mean mini-tub lol.

Re: Ford guy finds Lamborghini?

hey eillob i also have been seriously looking into the 165s...only thing is im looking to goin the fuel injected route and i was wondering, what upper lower combo do you think would flow in equivelence to the Weiand dual-plane, Road Demon Jr. 625cfm combo. reading articles such as that really convinces me that im going in the right route. oh and one more thing, how big of a cam do you think you could get away with without haven to notch the pistons? i appreciate your help

Well Im gonna tell you right out I don't know much about carbs, Im a fuel injected kinda guy. But I do know that Weiand dual planes just from what I've read will deliver power up into the 6,800 RPM range. Now I do know that trick flow makes two different R-series upper and lower intakes. One will deliver power up to 7,750 rpm range with a 90mm opening. The other is in the7,250 rpm range with a 75mm opening. So check out trick flow I think they have what your looking for.

As far as your cam question, I honestly don't know and the guy at AFR wouldn't say either. So in my opinion anything past a stock cam and 1.7 rollers, Your probably gonna need fly cut pistons. Either that or your gonna need someone who has some sort skill in this dept.

Option 2

Yes it is a little more money and heads are twisted wedge instead of AFR's but, 420hp is 420hp.

1.6's with a broom stick cam will not give you much of a lope at all. You need some duration and lift. I'd when you get around 220 duration and close to .500 lift you could start to hear a cam pretty good.

Hey 351wstang Im with ya but I gotta emissions issue to deal with up hear. Now if I had your ride I'd be home free. If you have an older car up here you don't have to do emissions so you can have whatever cam you want. Not so with the newer cars the wrong cam can kill at the emissions station.
