4.8/5.3/6.0 Same as 5.7 LS1
I was looking at LS-1 head/intake parts today, and on this one type of head package it said it could be used on the 4.8/5.3/6.0 GenIII and LS-1 motors. I know the LS-1 and 4.8/5.3/6.0 blocks are aluminium, could they maybe be the same block with a different cam or something. I also have seen LS-1 projects were they put a 6.0 liter truck intake (called the LSX if anyone cares) on the LS-1. So are they the same blocks or not, and if they are could I put LS-6 heads and intake on the 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0 motors?????

Re: 4.8/5.3/6.0 Same as 5.7 LS1
The 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines are based off the LS1. I don't know if you coudl take LS6 heads and bolt them on to a 5.3 without some kind of modding (I mean you have to realize the valve sizes will probably be different, and so will the compression, and no doubt the cam).
I do know SLP has a short block that is a 402 stroker (I think it makes a 402), anyways, its an LQ4/LQ9 block (the 6.0 high output engine) that uses a 4 inch crank and pistons. They claim the engine is good for about 500 hp or so with the LS6 heads.

Only the LS1/LS6 block is aluminum....the others (which are for truck duty) all are iron blocks.....heads are all aluminum though...

Re: 4.8/5.3/6.0 Same as 5.7 LS1
I too am curious as to what parts interchange. i.e: Can you swap an LS1 cam into a 4.8? Are the 4.8 and 5.3 heads the same? Will the LS1 head fit (same bore as 4.8/5.3). How about intakes, will the LS1 fit the 4.8/5.3?
Thanks, Andy |

The company I work for makes equipment used to clean the GM blocks from the foundry. We currently have some of the blocks here at our facility. The ones we have are marked 4.8/5.3 and they are aluminum. The 6.0 may be a different block all together.

Re: 4.8/5.3/6.0 Same as 5.7 LS1
If I remember right some of the guys over at pacific-audio.com have heavily modded the ls1 based engines. LS1.com also has a truck section. Perhaps you should go over there and see what they've got going on now. I haven't been there in a while but was a regular when I had my silverado.

Re: 4.8/5.3/6.0 Same as 5.7 LS1
The 4.8/5.3/6.0 are probably the same block (excluding weather its iron or aluminum) with a diffrent bore & stroke. Somebody wanted to know if LS6 heads were interchangable with these engines (or something like that), wasnt the LS6 a big block? I remember there was an LS6 454...
