Re: cost of a repair?

I don't think it should cost over $100. However, some valve covers are a bitch to get to and would cost more.

Re: cost of a repair?

If you have the 2.2 (4 cyl) it is a easy job... Gently pull out the plug wires, take off the 4 large nuts, gentlt tap side of cover to dislodge & lift off.... You can use some permatex #2 to hold new gasket in place when installing... I think that $100 is a little high for a 15 minute job...

If it is a 2.2 with a few miles on it you might want to replace the Dist. O-ring also. They tend to get brittle and leak. Hard to tell if it is leaking because it drains down the back of the motor and drips about dead center. The rubber grometts around the spark plugs are easy to replace while you have the valve cover off.

Re: cost of a repair?

I think he was reffered to a dealers cost at $100.00. In fact they will charge 1 hour at $75 an hour (depending on the labor rate) and $12 for the gasket and maybe $3.99 for the brake cleaner (parts wash) your looking at around $90-100. Yes it can be done by yourself.. Not difficult at all on the four cylinders...
