'97 Talon Conversion

Hey guys, I've looked for a '97 eclipse gsx that would fit my price range(5,000-7,750) for a while now but most gsx's usualy go for more than that and like all turbo eclipses it is very hard to find one that is still anything close to stock. I was thinking about just getting a '97 talon and doing an eclipse body conversion to it since most Talon's go for under 3,500 but I have some concerns first.

I'm guessing that since the cars are identical in every way except appereance that crankwalk will be no more common on a talon than on an eclipse right? Doing a the conversion to a Talon will be cheaper than just buying a gsx right?..... it can't cost more than 2,000 can it? The last thing is if all the work is done properly will the car look pretty much identical?

You should be able to pick up used head/tail lights for cheap. Front and rear bumpers will be fairly expencive even for used.

But rember unless you get a black talon, They all have the black roofs and side mirrors, So if you really wanted to convert it you would have to get a new paint job.

The talons have diffrent rims (depends on model, base rims are the same).

Plus dont froget the badge on the air bag on the stearing wheel, If you replaced all that then no one would ever know unless they looked at the title.

But basicly that isent worth it to me, There is nothing wrong with the talon! If you like the 97+ eclipse front (and or rear) then just buy that. No point in doing all that to try and fool the world.

I auctly like the talon tail lights better then the eclipse, because it makes it have less of a fat butt and the head lights i like better but thats just me.

Yea, I was planning on getting a black one due to the roof issue. In the end when deciding between an eclipse and a talon I guess it all comes down to one questions, Do you like skinny buts or fat buts? I personally prefer good ol' fat buts. yehehe

It would be cheaper to buy a talon and convert it to a GSX lookalike. stock body kit=$400(at the most) taillights=$75, wheels=$200 headlights=$50 but who cares about a steering wheel airbag? Oh well.

i say juss change the front of the talon and it will look hot like that. and get some of the 97 stock wheels and then it would look really hot. even though i prefer eclipses JLO butt.

i dont understand what you are saying.. a talon is no cheaper than an eclipse. the only case it would be is if you are buying the talon from a moron.

it being the same car and all, the price is the same unless you are talking about a 1g talon to a 2g eclipse

Well about the air bag, Personaly i hate explaining some thing 50 times to every one, You know people will ask hey why does the air bag say eagle?

But yeah talons generaly go for less money then the eclipses, try looking at the blue book for a talon then a eclipse i bet ya the talon will be cheaper.

wow, that is pretty pathetic.. i went to www.kbb.com and checked my talon awd vs an eclipse gsx (everything else the exact same) and it said my talon was 300 dollars cheaper.

even them being a different price, a couple hundred bucks is still the same

WoW! i looked up the blue book on kelly blue book for the talon vs eclipse.
1998 TSI Talon, 100,000 miles, 5-speed, basic options, Exleclent condition
$5,600 kbb pp value

$6,675 kbb pp value

Over a $1000 diffrence in blue book values, in my area at least

i heard that the insurance is a little cheaper on a talon just because it's domestic and not import....i guess i won't find out until i insure my talon versus my previous eclipse but that's what i heard anyways

Well, first off the auto sources I'm using to validate my qoutes are ebaymotors.com & dsmtrader.com which both have illustrious records. The Talons on ebay sell for a relatively lower price when compared to Eclipses for atleast the following reason. Although Talons and Eclipses are both the result of the same project & are very much identical in every way not too many people know this.... I know maybe 5% of people in my city that are aware of the eclipses presence are also aware to the fact that it is also & related to a Talon. About how many of that percentile are currently in the market for an Eclipse or even a Talon for that matter??? not to many if any. So in a way the ignorance of the population towards the eclipse should alone drop the value of the Talon dramatically.

Now on dsmtrader.com it is a whole different story. Since the sellers and buyers are both aware of what a dsm is & both know that these two cars posess the same technical features along with a very high potential that will tend to boost the price up from ebaymotors. So in the end I guess you can say the decrease in a eclipse to talon price is probably because information that people bear about Eclipses TOTALY exempts any knowledge of it being related to a Talon or what a Talon even is if you want to go that far....

Also, the eclipse comes with a couple more options, if I'm correct air conditioning wasn't standard on any model Talon? Well the option that really puts the eclipse up there HAS the remote trunk release. Try and sell a car without that piece of equipment
