severe negative camber

My 89 CX is lowered on Coilovers and uses KYB shocks and I've noticed a severe amount of negative camber, mostly on my front wheels. I am well aware that this naturally occurs whenever a car is lowered, however it is almost ridiculous on my car. My Falken Tires are wearing fast enough in one section that they might not last 2 months total. My buddy has a 91 CRX Si and he uses the same coilovers and shocks. We've both lowered our cars the same amount, i'm guessing around 2.5 inches, and his camber is much more reasonable than mine. Is there something else effecting this?

I've chosen not to purchase a camber kit due to fender on tire rubbing that will occur since my tires are 205 in width. I know that not purchasing a camber kit will wear the tires rapidly, and that's why my question is: why is my buddy and my car's camber completely different. He has no camber kit either, yet his camber is much more reasonable

Re: severe negative camber

then something is differnt in the suspension geometry. You can buy a kit that adjusts from the lower control arm so that it does not make the top of the wheel stick out, made specificly for that reason. I cant think of who makes it right now but I'l try to find it.

Re: severe negative camber

If you haven't got it aligned since you lowered it, thats why you're eating tires real fast. Mine did it too.. Get the toe adjusted and it will be considerably easier on tires.. I was going through tires every two months when I found out that I needed to just get an alignment after I lowered my car.

Re: severe negative camber

buddy of mine lowered his S10 and I let him borrow a set of rims/tires I had and he never got an alignment (even though I told him he would need one long before he lowered it) and in less than a month killed two of my brand new Sumitomo's

Ya I figured the alignment was a huge factor in the tire wear after i got it lowered, i did that last week and I also raised it a little to decrease the camber, i think both these things will help for sure, but I think I'll consider that lower control arm camber kit you were talking about.

Re: severe negative camber

to pauls81sc,
I can't see how the width of my tires can possibly affect the camber. Whether my tires are 205 or 175, they're still on the same angle, right?

Re: severe negative camber

wider tires will make camber wear worse, as well as low profile tires... and expecially a combination of both.
