My left front tire rubbed a whole in my coolant box. I have 18" zenetti wheels and toyo 235/40 zr18 95w tires. now my question is. do they make a smaller coolant box? or am i just gonna have to get a smaller wheel? Or possibly a thinner tire? I want to see if they make a smaller coolant contaner or box whatever ya call it. If not then whats my next best option!?

Re: Tire rubbed a whole in my coolant box!!
They also only rub against each other when i turn the tire sharp to the right. I have a 91 300zx TT.

Re: Tire rubbed a whole in my coolant box!!
so you don't have a lining on the inside of your tire well? unless you want to fabricate or make your own coolant box, then you will probably have to get smaller tires. i don't know if i would get a smaller sidewall, 40 is already thin, any thinner, a little bump could ruin your rims. so i say to get a smaller wheel.

wheel wells?
Where can i get wheel wells at? I have a wings west body kit on my car. will stock wells fit? Also i found this for sale. Moroso Radiator Overflow Tanks. http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...4921541&desc=1
Will this work possibly? hey also advertise one of these as well. Moroso Catch Cans http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...4921541&desc=1 Anybody know the difference between the two? |

An over flow tank is exactly that. Just a tank with a tube that fills with the extra coolant as it heats up and expands. A catch can is used between the crank breather and the intake. Basically it keeps all the carbon and burnt fuel that gets blown by the rings from being dumped back into your intake. Dumping the burnt gasses into your intake sounds stupid and utterly backward but this is done by the manufactures instead of dumping it into the exhaust because 1, they wouldn't pass emissions other wise and 2, it would just tear up your cats. A catch can is just another build up piece on your way up the horsepower scale. This is because no matter how great your engine is, when you drop the clutch at 7k you are going to get a healthy amount of blow by (gasses going passed the rings). But really a catch can would benefit just about any vehicle, particularly a older one that is losing alot passed the rings (think of it like this, up to 15% loss is acceptable on NEW cars so a 78' Lebaron with a 200k mile 318 V8 is probably damn near to losing 50% when you are on the throttle).

Re: Tire rubbed a whole in my coolant box!!
I dont understand why mine is rubbing though? Iv seen them with 19" inch wheels and they dot seem to have a problem. It looks like my wheel wells have been ripped off too. whoever had the car before me must have done it so it would clear, and well now its rubbing the tank. Oh well i bought the moroso replacement and hopefully it will do the trick and be smaller than the stock tank.

dude u shouldnt have a problem with tires rubbing unless the car is lowered or u have some super thick tires on your 19's. i have 19's on my z and i have about an inch clearance from the wheel wellswhen i turn my wheels and i have fairly thick tires. i dont feel like goin to check it out right now so maybe tomorrow.

Re: Tire rubbed a whole in my coolant box!!
my tires on the fron are: toyo 235/40 zr18 95w tires on 18" zenetti wheels. I guess my car has been lowerd. I dont know much about suspensions on cars, but i what do i need to raise my car suspension back to stock?

Re: Tire rubbed a whole in my coolant box!!
put the stock springs back on. if your car is lowered, most likely somebody put eibach springs on there which lower the car .8".

if eibach springs were put on u should still not ahve a problem with tires rubbing. i have a feeling someone has cut your springs massively. i can put the eibach springs on mine still with the 19's.

Might want to check if the coolant box itself has changed position. A loose bolt or two could let it swing wide enough to rub the tire I would think.
