Instrument Panel Squeak & Thump
Our Sub has a persistent squeak and light thump from behind the instrument panel or in the steering coulumn. I believe it is related to the engine hour meter as it occurs when ever the engine is running regardless of gear selection (even park). It is not related to RPM. the squeak followed by light thump is rythmic and noticeable to driver and passenger. Our local dealer has replaced the instrument panel twice but the problem persists. They now say that it is normal and is due to the "heavy duty nature" of the intruments they use. I havent heard the noise in any other suburban or tahoe so I cant see how it is normal. Its a 2003 with 6000 miles. Any ideas? My local guy argued with me that the SUb even had an hour meter!

That's shameful.
It sounds like the dealer just wanted you to go away, and stop bothering them since even they have no idea what the problem is. Kind of hard to tell from your description what it could be. Does this noise happen in cold weather, hot, or both. Is the fan running for the climate control when you hear this noise. How slow/fast is the thump? Is this noise coming from behind the instrument cluster? Let us know if there's anything else you notice about the noise, maybe we can narrow it down for ya ~Trail
