1996 camry metallic clicking under hood

this is my first post...hope you can help. i'm looking to buy a 96 camry with 99,000 miles. has new timing belt. seems in good shape. real quiet while on the test drive...can't tell the engine is even on.

however, when stopped and in park, i popped the hood and there was a rhythmic metallic-type clicking noise on the passenger side of the engine...not real loud.

also, can anyone tell me what can cause cupped tires on the outside shoulder?

from what i've read here, the camry is a great car...but what do you think....any help appreciated....thanks..

Re: 1996 camry thumping under hood

Your "Click" could be the large nut that tightens on the dampher pilley (crank pulley)... My 87 Camry had this "Click" & it drove me crazy... I took a 21" pullover with the correct socket, whacked it with a hammer a few times to tighten...magic, the "click" went away.....
Cupping of tires is caused by bad struts (shocks on older cars)...Cutting the inside of tire would be the Toe-In.... I would have a good Alignment mechanic check it out on the struts before you buy, may get a discount on car....
