?'s about e-manage unit

upon looking up info, i found that the g-reddy e-manage unit can calibrate fuel/air along with other features. my question is what all will i need for it to funtion properly and what tools. i see they offer the piggyback units, 2 separate harnesses, and a computer support tool. how can i tune in the settings for fuel/air and what additional features are accessable with the support tool? can most places tune it in or is there a way to use my pc to do that? i can't find alot of deep info on the item and was trying to understand it all before purchasing it. i'm getting and extire exhaust (headers back) and will need to tune in the fuel air. any info is helpful. thanks.

It is recommeded that you take your car to a dyno shop and have the car tuned on their dyno. I suggest either a dynapack or dynojet dyno.

For you to install the unit, you need to have automotive wiring skills and proper tools. I do not suggest that you try and install it without those items. If you do not have the proper skills or tools (if you have the skills, you know the tools I am referring to), take it to the shop to have it installed.

The support tool allows you to access the 16x16 maps and fine tune the system more than the 5 little knobs on the outside can. But I do not suggest that you get the support tool, as it is unnecessary unless you are tuning it yourself, which you should not do w/o experience.

so in other words the only use for the support tool is for tuning it yourself with i shouldn't try cause i've never done it before? also, will they adjust it at the dyno shop and if so will they access the 16x16 maps? is there anywhere near sharon, pa (ohio, pennsylvania line about 1/2 way up) that has the tools needed for the unit or will any dyno shop do it? thanks. . . oh, also, for the unit, should i get one or two of the harnesses and are they even worth the $ or is it just as easy to tap into the existing wires?

If you are going to just use the E-manage for a simple dyno tune, you will not need the extra harnesses. Those harnesses are for adjusting the ignition timing and more direct injector control.

The support tool is supposed to only be available to GReddy dealers, not the public and should only be used by shops on a dyno. If you have access to the capabilities of the E-manage w/o a dyno or if you try and road tune, you will screw up your motor or perhaps even blow it.

so what would be the best route for me to go? i'm not going to attempt to tune it myself so the support tool would be worthless. what kind of gains would be accomplished by the advance tuning option (ignition timing, injector. . ) with the other harnesses or is it mainly for FI? is it worth it or is just setting the air/fuel sufficiant. i'm got an injen intake and going to have amss headers, and magnaflow cat-back. also, is a dynoshop going to know how to tune the unit or will i have to adjust the variables?

The dyno shop will know how to tune the car. If they are guessing, you need to go somewhere else.

Your best route would be just the E-manage. The other harnesses are mainly for turbo cars running larger injectors and altering the ignition timing tables. for gains by using the other harnesses, it really is not going to be that much, as the stock system is pretty well off as it is.

thanks alot for all the info. so in summary, just get the unit, no harnesses, tap into the existing ecu wires, and go to a dynoshop to get it programmed (correct)?
