Car Stereo Installation Kits

Anyone know where I can get an stereo installation kit for my '03 Malibu similar to what crutchfield offers?

Is it true that in the '03 Malibus you have to leave the factory radio in the car somewhere if you want an aftermarket receiver because keyless entry and other features are controlled by the stock radio.

Re: Car Stereo Installation Kits

First of all, it's stupid the way Chevy wired everything in the car to be controlled by the stock radio. Yea, technically if you want an aftermarket headunit in the Malibu, you gotta connect the stock radio. In fact, the wiring harness kits for the Mali include an extra cable where you can do that.

I said "technically" because the guy who did my headunit was able to wire it in a way where I didn't need the stock radio. I'm sure if you take your car in somewhere, they'll wire it this way too.

As for the installation kit, drop by a local car audio place. I didn't have any trouble finding an installation kit for my car (which is a 2001).

What?! I had no problems installing my after market Alpine.

Just took the stock out and put the Alpine in. Everything still works Like Normal ('sept the stereo, it's better)

^ I think they started wiring the cars weird after the 2000 model, so that's why you didn't have any trouble.

after the 2000 model meaning including the 2000 model as well?

cuz I've got a 2000 Mali and am about to replace that factory cd player with another cd player... and no, I don't have any keyless entry options on mine.

Car stereo install

Im about to install a DUAL cd deck in the next couple of days, i've been told that i might need the wiring harness with a bypass box. I don't have keyless entry though and i don't think my stock am/fm radio controls anything in my car. If anyone has any info for me before i start it would be appreciated.
