Ground Effects

Anyone know how I can see if my State allows Ground effects? I've tried all types of searches and can't find it. I live in Utah in case any of you know. And I've seen a few cars around with them.

The issues will be ground clearance and the certification of modifications by the applicable state laws.

I don't know what you mean by having seen 'ground effects' but I'm assuming you mean barge boards, skirts and/or underbody venturis including a curved floor.

There will be regulations regarding alterations to body work and almost certainly restrictions on the minimum ground clearance even if they are plain common sense (ie sufficient ground clearance so in the event of puncture the bodywork is not touching the ground).

Having said that - 'ground effects' ie the production of downforce or reduction of lift tends to work at higher speeds and whether you are after this effect or merely some aesthetic improvement (ie making your car look 'trick') will mean quite different things.

There are plenty of books about aerodynamics for racing application around. Although unless you are in a racetrack situation it's difficult to see any particular benefit to a road other than perhaps looks....
