Question Transfer Case NOISE ?

Transfer case NOISE 95 GCLaredo

After driving for 15 mins or so ( especially in the heat of Summer) I am experiencing a loud grinding noise both at low speed & highway speed which almost sounds like a "flywheel" getting munched .
It sounds terrible , and is a BIG WORRY when the Jeep is in town making this front end grinding /crunching sound almost as if its gonna blow up when it starts. It doesn't always do it especially if its a short trip.

Any one experienced this prob/got any suggestions to fix? Please help as this jeep is in "pristine" shape & I'm really enjoying it ( only got it 3mos ago).Appreciate all answers /suggestions ...

Are you sure it's coming from the t-case? If it's making grinding noises I would check all fluids(F/R differentials, t-case, tranny, oil) for signs of metal shavings. You can also try searching the posts at jeephorizions.com or better yet at nagca.com they are the Grand Cherokee specialists(I would suggest using the search function heavily to make sure there isn't an answer posted already, they are very knowedgable but can be pretty rough on newbies that don't attempt to search to answers out themselves) Sorry I can't be of much help but I think additional info about the noise is needed to get a better idea as to why it is occuring. What t-case do you have? Engine? Does the noise occur in 2WD and 4WD or just one or the other? Does the noise only happen when moving or does it happen when stopped. Does it get louder as you go faster? Does it get louder as your RPMs go up?

Re: Transfer Case NOISE ?

Thanks for your reply ByronP.
I have done more research and it seems that the trans& torque converter during summer heat and driving are causeing flywheel to "BALLOON" and grind causing this WICKED NOISE in 2wd when revs are up & down.I have since added an "additive" to try & cool down the trans fluid and reduce the friction .
Guess I gotta wait & see what happens .

Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced this problem ?Would a trans cooler help out ? I don't even tow with the Jeep .

Thanks in advance Jeep enthuisiasts.

I'm a greenhorn in auto mechanics, but I have a tranny cooler on my GC. I'm at 180K and still going strong (knock on wood, only there's no wood around this all plastic computer). I haven't yet had any problems with tranny and I believe that's because it's cooled by its own cooler rather than depending on the regular radiator. As well as flushing out tranny occasionally.
