What Exhaust to get, that is the question?

I have a 97 Prelude that has some kind of axle back exhaust on it. And I'm looking to replace it with a different cat-back system. Probably either 5zigen, Skunk2, or DC Sports. anybody out there have these types and what's your opinion about them.

I also have a DC Sports Header, Hi Flow Cat and AEM CAI. If anybody has this setup, how does it sound when sitting in the car??? Thanks alot.

Re: What Exhaust to get, that is the question?

the 5zigen exhaust gives a deeper throaty rumble vs the louder more high pitched noise of the skunk2
IMO you can't go wrong with either one, but the skunk2 doesn't look as good

Re: What Exhaust to get, that is the question?

I haven't heard it on the Prelude, but I'm a fan of the Thermal Research & Developement exhausts. They're pretty thoaty and not loud and obnoxious, but it all depends what sound you're going for. When I get my exhaust, I think that's what I'm going to get.

Re: What Exhaust to get, that is the question?

why did u waste ur money on a high flow cat? eeryone i have talked to saysthat that is a crock of shit! BUt as to ur question I would have to go with the skunk2 if ur looking for performance but if ur looking for the sound quality go with the 5zigen

Um, I've heard that high flow cats work really well. They're the next best thing to gutting your cat, which doesn't provide that much more in gains and kills the environment.

Re: What Exhaust to get, that is the question?

well according to the Skunk2 website a complete exhaust system for the 4th gen (92-96) would run for $638.93. The "01" Civic EX Coupe they provide dyno tests on only improved by 6hp and 5tq. If you look at the 5Zigen website they have a really nice JDM exhaust system called the "Miracle 5Zigen" going for $800, that when tested on a Toyota Chaser, which is not available in the US, made an improvement in 27hp. This was not easy to find because 5Zigen provides everything on their website in ps which has to be converted to SAE Horsepower. But overall, 5Zigen made a 27hp increase and Skunk2 made an increase in 6hp, but their is a $161.07 difference in price. So it all depends on what you want to spend. And this is coming from someone that used to think that Skunk2 was better. Aw shit i guess that means i have to chance my vote on the poll, lol. Goes to show what a little research can do.

Re: What Exhaust to get, that is the question?

Yeah, the site may claim that, but I doubt it's true. For one, they'll take the car the gains the most. And for two, they could throw any graph up there. Some dyno charts say that an AEM CAI gives like 14 whp, and we all know that isn't true.

hey

yeah but because they are one of the 3 leading companies in japan as far as performance goes i doubt they would just throw any chart up there.

I have a DC sports Intake and Header, as well as the Apex'i n1 exhaust. I personally think the n1 exhaust system sounds very good. It's got a rumble that I really like. I haven't heard the 5zigen but the skunk2 i have heard, which i think it's more of a whining, higher pitched sound, especially in 6grand+. I think the n1 exhaust sounds great from inside, especially compared to stock. It stays deep down to the lower RPM's, but is really loud. The Apexi n1 will turn heads, including cops. And the looks, i couldn't be happier.
