2001 SE engine noise

Hey- thanks in advance for any replies. I was hoping to get a general idea before I take it to the mechanic.

I have a 2001 Grand Prix SE with 53,000 miles. The engine makes a loud noise, rather like a humming or vibration. The car seems to run just fine. I thought it was perhaps not shifting properly but the RPM's don't go very high and I can kinda feel it shift. The noise doesn't happen when the car is sitting still, only when moving, usually at 25 MPH or greater.

It sounds like it is in the middle part of the engine, towards the back.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Re: 2001 SE engine noise

Does the noise only happen when your giving the engine gas? Does it still occur if your coasting at say 30?

Re: 2001 SE engine noise

Are you getting vibration in the steering wheel? Is it worse at some speeds than others?

No, not really a vibration. Just the noise and it is just annoying.

Thanks for your help so far - I appreciate it!
