'97 LE Power Door Locks
Hi all,
1997 Toyota Camry LE, 4 cyl. PW, PL, loaded, etc. Auto, 130k. Today, while driving and parking I noticed the door locks were making a noise when a door was opened, the same noise that is made when the locks are locked or unlocked but without the doors actually changing from locked to the unlocked position. So, I just went outside and ran some rudimentary tests. I don't use my remote alarms/locks b/c of problems with that (the alarm would go off on it's own and I couldn't get it shut off with the remote for a period of time). Anyway, I open all the locks from the drivers side, get in and have my assitant go around and open and shut all the doors, no problems. Put the key in, engage the auto locking mechanism, shut the key off (leaving it in the ignition) and locks automatically unlock. My assistant then opens and shuts the doors...1st go round no problems. 2nd time at passengers side door, after opening the door, you can hear the lock solenoid engaging like it is trying to open/close the locks but they aren't moving. Close the door, it does the same thing 3 or 4 time but not change in the lock position. It just sounds like it's trying to lock/unlock the locks. This occured several times, passengers side front door only. Lastly, removed the key from the ignition...didn't do it for the next two times... What the heck is going on? Possessed? Could my alarm, fast turn signals, CD Player not working, and locks all be related to a short? Any help would be appreciated, thanks Rick |

I am not 100% sure about 97 camry, but you should look on the door side where the wires go in the door. Normally there is a wiring harness that usually becomes loose. Other than that I recently worked on my friend's 97 camry. He was having a problem that his driver window will go up but will not come down. I was suspecting window regulator but it turns out to be his master power window/lock control switch, so you may want to look into that too.

I posted the same question with the my 1998 Camry a week or so ago. I have yet to figure out the problem. Someone suggested the wiring harness, but the boot over it is fine. Have you had any luck. Maybe you want to read my post to see if it helps you at all.
