My fiance just bought an '88 Accord LXi . The car is in great shape, except that when you put it in 5th gear nothing happens. It's like the linkage isn't even engaging it. I had been told somone may have put gear oil in it, and killed it, but the oil I drained out was motor oil, and there was no metal in it at all. When I lunched 2nd gear in my Z28, you could still here the gear in there making noise. This thing does nadda !
This thing works nothing like my Mustang, or any of the other american vehicles Im used to, so I was hoping I could find some help here. Thanks in advance, any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Re: '88 Accord LXi 5 speed problem

I looked the fluid up at Autozone's website, so I put 10W-40 in it. I was just noting that I didnt think someone had put gear oil in it. Anyways, thanks for the reply. How much are the syncros and where to get them ? These must be some weird transmissions, because when my syncros get bad, I get a lot of grinding. The stick goes up just like it had went in gear, but nothing happens. Thanks again, and let me know about the parts. |
