Supercharger on GTP

My dad always keeps telling me that the supercharger is nice on the car but if I rev it up too much or drive at High RPM's that I will junk the engine. How does that work? They have to have some sort of safety thing for that

Re: Supercharger on GTP

wouldnt worry bout the engine, if you drive harshly the trannyll go first. Usualy itll start to hae problems around 100k for ppl who drive w/ a heavy foot. Just dont floor it every tiem you accellerate, you can go all out every once in a while when you have to, but, as long as you dont all of the time youll be fine. It would be a diff story if you had just dropped the sc in a auto made for natural aspiration, but the grand prix has the necessary mods to support the sc power.

Re: Supercharger on GTP

With a stock supercharger pulley or even a one step smaller one, your not going to implode your supercharger, or your engine for that matter. The worst that can happen to the supercharger is the "coupler" piece in the snout cracking or breaking, which is like a $25 part to upgrade with 3 hours of wrenching involved. The engine will be just fine "stock", and if you drop to a 3.4 pulley to get 10psi of boost, a 180 degree thermostat and one stage colder plugs will ensure a long engine life. Even your transmission should be safe no matter how you drive with low levels of power like stock or lightly modified. We do have a well built transmission that really only becomes problematic when we really start building serious V8 torque specs with these engines.
I really do drive my Gtp like I stole it, with lots of full throttle blasts all over the place. I also maintain it very well, and it has yet to give me trouble with a little under 50k now of this abuse, and a mod list that puts me on the upper end of a "mild build up".
This 3.8 is a well built strong motor.

Re: Supercharger on GTP

totaly agree, but cept fer one thing, even totaly stock gtps tend to have small tranny troubles around 100k, although gm did give the gtps a much improved tranny along w/ the sc and etc. after that many m,iles it often isnt enough. Luckily the problems arnt huge in most cases, just little things (unless you are into racing) most common problem is an occasional problem with the Transmission Pressure Control Solenoid. The cost to replace it is around 90 bucks for parts and a little over 260 bucks around 4 hours of labor, (im assuming 65 $/hour)
