i have 96 blazer 107k miles. i've going through brakes almost every two months. after the second time i replaced pads, calipers, rotors, and brake hoses and adjusted rear brakes. had no pedal after bleeding.went through another pair of pads. replaced m.c bled that properly and the rest of the brakes again no pedal. i have too press pedal to the floor in order to stop. and i think the front pads are rubbing all the time. abs works but i dont know how to bleed it clintons doesnt give good discription and they say you need a special tool ???? dont know what it is? (tool) is it possible the abs unit has air in it? any help would be great. at the end of my rope.

Re: 96 blazer brake problems
Not to be rude, but it is obvious you are doing something wrong.
Take the parts to a shop and have them properly installed. |

Re: 96 blazer brake problems
As I stated earlier "I was not being rude"
You definitely have something wrong and I would leave it to a professional to find out the problem. Brake problems are nothing to play around with your spare time. Your life could be in danger. |

Well I just had to replace my Brake Booster...it was a pain in the butt but, like you I was changing pads way too quickly. Then all my brakes were not wanting to stop and having to push all the way to the ground. I had to take it to the chevy dealership and I had it diagnosed...Brake boosters are expensive if the dealership puts it on but if you can find a qualified mechanic who wont screw you over you can buy the part for pretty cheap and have it put on. This is just a suggestion...Hope you get you problem fixed.

The no pedal issue is caused by air in the ABS unit. Re-bleed the master cylinder, re-bleed all four wheels as in a non-ABS system (right rear, left rear, right front, left front). Then you need to properly bleed the ABS unit to remove the air trapped inside it. Page 9-36 of the Chilton's manual describes the 11 step procedure clearly. Its not difficult, just time consuming and must be done in sequence. The special tools needed are three combination valve tools (not expensive) and a scan tool capable of cycling the ABS unit's internal valves to expel trapped air.
Good luck, |
