Re: Amsoil?
I use Amsoil 75-90 gear lube in both diffs, and their ATF in the t-case on my 01 2500 4x4. Excellent product all around. Been using their products for about 15 years now, with no problems to report.
One thing though, if you have any leaks at all, get them fixed before adding the synthetic oil, as it will flow more readily out of any holes it can find. Being that I run the Diesel in mine, I still use Dino-oil in the engine in summer, 15w40. and synthetic 0-40 in the winter, changed every 5000KM. hope this helps, good luck |

Diesel Oil
Okay, I'm going to show my ignorance here.
What is "Diesel Oil"? How does it differ from Pennzoil 10W30? Before anyone starts beating me up for using Pennzoil, I have a '94 T-Bird that has over 240K. Changed plugs and oil, that's it. So, don't tell me that Pennzoil is terrible for your engine. I will also agree that most T-birds don't go 200K without major overhauls. I'll take all the bleessings I can! |

Re: Amsoil?
ok, I won't hammer on you for using pennzoil. I tried it, it sucked, i don't use it anymore.
The difference in diesel and gas oils are not great, however, 15w40 diesel oils are formulated for compression ignited engines, where the lighter oils are formulated to work better in spark ignition engines. Thats the easiest way to explain it. Diesels generally run more compression, longer strokes, lower rpm and higher torque figures than gasoline engines, and use a heavier oil to help protect the internals. "diesel" oils are mostly seen in the 15w40, and 0w40 range, although amsoil does make a "5w30 diesel" oil. This is a heavy service, lightweight, synthetic oil for use in automotive diesel applications. |

Re: Amsoil?
I have been running Amsoil lubes bumper to bumper since my 96 RAM and now my 01 since day one. I also have their remote ByPass filter and prelube installed.

Re: Amsoil?
in my experience, the dodge 5spd comes stock with a synthetic oil in it. I have seen these trannys go well over 400,000 km with no lube change. Not recommended, but it happens

Re: Amsoil?
Yep, I haven't had to touch mine yet. Dodge makes a wicked 5 speed in my opinion. I can shift up and down through the gears without the clutch, and it's just so sweet. It might not be good for it, but like I say: I drive my vehicles like I drive my vehicles.

Haven't Had Any Experience With Amsoil But Do Use Royal Purple In Everything But The Engine And In That I Use 5w40 Rotella Synthetic. Also "diesel" Oils Have More Detergents. Any One Know The Difference Between Gl-4 And Gl-5?
