Tahoe Lurches at Stop

I know I need to replace the brake pads...today. But, when you come to a complete stop the car lurches forward (feels like its coming from back brakes) and makes a sound (not a squel but kind of). Somebody told me it might be a problem with the ABS. Suggestions? Ideas what types of places are best to fix these problems...dealer? brake check? independent?
