Question If you can solve this problem, then you're good...real good.

I recently purchased a 1994 Ford Ranger supercab with a 3.0 liter v6 fuel injected. The problem is this: you can start the truck right up and it'll run as long as you want it to. When you cut it off, however, it will not start up again. In order to start it back up, you have to disconnect the battery and let it sit for a few hours. I've asked mechanics about it and none of them know what to think. Any help?

Thanks,

Joey

Are you sure it has to wait for a few hours? BEcause if you just disconnect the battery and then it'll start back up then it would be easier to figure out. But what i would say is something is majorly wrong with your electrical systems.

Re: If you can solve this problem, then you're good...real good.

apparently, youre truck is not starting unless youre ECU is reset. (FYI 15 minutes is long enough to reset it) This makes no sense tho, becaue the ECU is obviously not letting you start it, but the ECU shouldnt be like that. it should only give you a CEL and throw a code. the only reason you can start it after its reset, is because the ECU "forgot" why its not letting you start it.

what you can do:
first and foremost, buy a hanes manual from pepboys so you can understand everything that im gonna tell you to do.

Next:
Get it scanned. its possible youre cel is on, but the bulb is toasted. this wont be easy becasue 94 uses a OBD-I scanner which is outdated. you will have to buy one yourself. look for one at wal-mart and places like that. It wont be easy to find one (trust me brotha). may have to get it off ebay. use the hayne's to find out what the code means and go from there. I can almost guarantee you WILL pull at least one code.

also:
this is obviously an ECU problem, so attack it like you should. this is where youll really need youre manual. first, check/clean/replace all youre sensors (mainly MAF, IAC, and 02) next, check all youre grounds to make sure they are good and tight.

* I am very confident that after youve tried all this it will run, so try everything ive suggested

*This is all assuming youre truck runs fine when it IS stared

*do a quick clean on youre MAF and look at all youre grounds before you do anything.

post updates because I am very curious
