1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo Alarm System does not reset-cannot crank

My '91 Cherokee Laredo used to have a keyless entry system,, but previous owner lost the keypad. Now the alarm must be turned off by turning the key left in the back hatch lock. Usually. However, the alarm decided to do its business, even though I had not locked any of the doors, since I do not trust it. The alarm turned off by the back hatchback key trick, but it will not reset itself and I cannot start the vehicle. The section of the Jeep's owner's manual that relates to the security system has been ripped out. (Most likely in a fit of pique by former owner.) I don't know what procedure to use to reset the car alarm and allow me to restart the vehicle. Does anyone know how to reset it, or bypass it, or remove this factory-installed alarm system? Please - someone - help! This is my only mode of transportation, and I need to get to work on Monday. Thank you. If you have a solution, you may reply to my e-mail address: [email protected]

Ok, I fixed the problem with my jeep and reset the alarm. For anyone else who encounters this problem:
1 Disconnect the battery for about a minute or two. Reconnect the battery and go through the procedure to reset the alarm (going to the back hatch and turning the key left in the lock, then turning the key in the driver's door)
2 If step one doesn't work, Check the battery itself to make sure it's not dead or doesn't need charging. Also check the battery cables themselves to make sure they aren't bad (this ended up being my problem, as soon as I changed the battery cables, the jeep let me reset the security alarm.)
I hope this helps if your having this problem.
