A few stupid questions (radiator and car cuts out when warm)
First. My car starts but dies when it gets warm (about 1/4 on the temp) as in maybe 5 mins, after it dies it will turn over but not start again until it is cool. A couple times when I tried to start the car it acted like all power was dead.....you'd hear one click and nothing after that totally dead but it only has done that maybe 3 tims since I've brought the car back home about 6 weeks ago, the car has not ran I've just been trying to figure it out.
One thing I did notice was my radiator fan, neither fan comes on maybe the car hasn't hit the temp for it to come on but both fans come on when the A/C is engaged. I have disconnected the IACV to see if it would run but it still cuts off.....The following day that the car died a shop installed a new distributer but I'm not sure if a sensor would go bad or the ignitor.....they did say it was running for a while when it was there and actually the car did run longer cause it made it home for me but now it's running not as long before it shuts off.....any suggestions or ideas....... Thanks in advance. |

If a new distributer was installed did you check all the wire connections... It happened to a friend of mine where it was installed and the ground wasnt bolted on all the way so his car kept cutting off, I tightened the bolt and he was on his way. Your problem sounds just like his.

ok look, the radiator fans ONLY come on when the car reaches a certain temp or the a/c is on. that's it. i already told you about the FITV. have you done anything on that link i sent you? i did mine yesterday and it was way loose. i suggest you try it. my idle runs much smoother now. no jumping up and down. here is the link one more time. http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthrea...threadid=44386
it only took me 20 minutes to do this. very simple. try that and then get back to us!

take off the three 10 mil bolts and the two 8 mil bolts to the plate. and only turn the cap clockwise. mine was about four revolutions off.

I took off and adjusted the FITV and it didn't help
I did tighten it up but maybe I need to tighten more?........same thing.......my car dies once the dashboard temp readout reaches about 1/6 of the way the car just dies like there is an on/off switch. When the car is cools down it will start back up.....but it only runs for like 5 mins when the car doesn't start it does turn over.
One thing I noticed and I asked earlier in my post was I know both of my radiator fans work because I can turn on the AC and they run, however, I am not sure when the last time I did see one fan running indepently (YES, OFF I have the AC OFF to see). |

Re: A few stupid questions (radiator and car cuts out when warm)
Ok here is some new methods. Some Might repeat themselves.
Engine Hard to start when hot 1.) Air Filter Clogged 2.) Fuel not reaching the fuel injection system 3.) Corroded battery connections, especially ground. Engine starts but stops immediately 1.) Loose or faulty electrical connections at distributor, coil, or alternator 2.) Insufficient fuel reaching the fuel injector(s) 3.) Vacuum leak at the gasket between the intake manifold and throttle body. Engine Rotates but will not start 1.) Fuel tank empty. 2.) Battery discharged 3.) Battery terminal connections loose or corroded. 4.) Leaking fuel injector(s), Faulty fuel pump, pressure regulator, etc. 5.) Fuel not reaching fuel rail. 6.) Ignition components damp or damaged. 7.) Worn, faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs. 8.) Broken, loose or disconnected wiring in the starting circuit 9.) Loose distributor is changing ignition timing. 10.) Broken, loose or discounnected wires at the ignition coil or faulty coil.
