Californias' SUV Ban

California's SUV Ban.
The Golden State has outlawed big SUVs on many of its roads but doesn't seem to know it.
By Andy Bowers

Its an interesting article and I wanted you members to voice your opinion on it, whether you live in California or not. Over here in NY driving over the Brooklyn bridge I do see that it does have that weight limit, and yet I see numerous Hummers driving on it. But in all fairness, I really do not mind them big suvs going down my street, what I get SO FREAKING ANNOYED is at the vehicles (big and small alike) that have the blazing loud music so damn loud that it sets off car alarms as they go down the block. Now that to me is much more annoying than seeing a big suv going down my street.

So what does anyone else think of the article.

old laws need be re-wrriten?

I live in California and I rather have SUV's be banned for pollution than being over 6000 pounds. It is true that they ruin our roads but regular sedans and minivnas still out number SUV's largely. Out here we can see the smog and that's more of a problem than SUV's terrorizing my street.

Sorry you feel that way about loud music. IMO it's nothing better than crusin' down the street (residential or business) while blasting your system. Not to offend you, but you sound like an old woman complaining!! Deal with it!!

No, I am not old and I am not a woman. One can have their music loud in their own vehicle, but I just find it uncessary to to have it so loud as to have car alarms go off as the vehicle passes by. That to me is too loud. Plus its deafening to the driver and against the law at least where I'm at. As for dealing with it, I do, I just find it inconsiderate.

So now that we got your critisizing me out of the way how do you feel about the topic at hand on the SUV weight ban.

Re: Californias' SUV Ban

I apologize for my critisism. As far as the SUV weight ban, I don't think they should. I used to live in L.A. CA. so I know how crappy the roads are. Potholes everywhere. Those big 12x12 steal plates on the streets. But it was a problem LONG before SUV'S came on the scene. And still is! At least where I was.

I tend to agree.

Well, heavier vehicles do tear up the roads more; I live in the eastern US, and West Virginia taxes vehicles according to their weight, so that those that tear up the roads pay more. Let those who must play, pay to play.

why does the government give tax breaks to small businesses to have a vehicle over 6000 pounds?

Re: Californias' SUV Ban

Because they want them to buy commercial vehicles, it wasn't intended for SUVs.
