Re: steering wheel not lined up
If you steering wheel is not centered when the vehicle is moving in a straight ahead direction, there is a wheel alignment problem.
The right fix is to have a 4 wheel alignment done and replace any worn or bent parts. This will ensure that the steering box is positioned on the high spot when going straight down the road. One check you can do is turn the steering wheel all the way either left or right. count the number of turns to move the wheels all the way in the opposite direction and then turn back exactly half the way. Is the steering wheel now centered with the spokes striaght across? If it is, then get the wheel alignment. Don't try this(The other fix is to remove the steering wheel and reposition it (not an easy job as it requires some special tools) but the root cause will still remain.) Don't try this JD Last edited by JDPascal; 08-06-2004 at 08:57 PM. |

You cannot remove the wheel and reposition it especially if you want your air bag to ever work again.
You can adjust your drag link near the steering gear box to correct the steering wheel straight. I would advise a thrust alignment though as your alignment is most likely out of spec. |

Right again YtseJam454. My head was in the 2 tierod/intermediate rod steering linkage. - been on holidays too long. Quote:
what we said on this one... if the back wheels aren't perpendicular to the vehicle centerline the steering wheel will not sit straight accross. Thanks for the reminders YtseJam454. JD |
