98 V-6 Accord Intermittent Startup Problem

Hello.

My car has had intermittent startup problems for about six months now. The car will crank, but not turn over. The length of time it will not start is completely random. Sometimes it will start within five minutes. Other times several hours. I have gone four to six weeks without it happening once and then it will happen five days in a row. It will happen at any point in the day or night, cold or hot, rain or snow. I took it to a Honda dealer once, they said it was fixed, and two days later it happened again. That was about 2 months ago. I am hesitant to take it again. Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. I know little about cars. Change oil, brakes, and tires. That's about it.

Did you get your ignition switch replaced? Honda recalled 6gen V6 models for faulty ignition switches.

if your ingition switch was replaced, i think you might have problems with main relay.

like honda 99 said....it may be your main relay. but check your spark plugs to see if they are bad.

This is the first time I have every used a forum. I was ready to sell my 98 Accord Coupe because I had this starting problem which only occurred after the car sat in the sun for 2-3 hours. It was like it was out of gas. The Dealer couldn't figure it out but he sure made a lot of money off of me. Finally a friend told me to try the web. Thanks to Mr. Plumaccordcoupe his accurate and detailed advice helped me solve the problem. I told the mechanic to change the main relay and problem was solved. Thank Automotive Forums

It is most likely your main relay. I just had mine replaced because of the same problem...the part is like $30 bucks and then labor puts you little over 100 bucks.
