Need amp assistance...

Hi, I'm gonna be purchasing 2 Alpine Type-R 12" subs (SWR-1241D). 1000w MAX, 300w RMS. What type of amp should i use to power these? how should they be powered? I have a very LIMITED knowledge on the topic, any and all help is appreciated. Some ideas for their enclosure in my SUV would be nice too...THANKS!

Re: Need amp assistance...

I personally think manufactures make the best mates for their own speaker/sub combo's.
If they were my subs and I needed an amp for them, I would stay with Alpine for the amps.
I looked up these amps and they're the best mates from the Alpine stables.

(2) MRD-M300 OR (2) MRD-M301
They go for about $300 new or about $150 on Ebay
OR
(1) MRD-M500 OR (1) MRD-M501
They go for about $500 new or about $250 on Ebay

Re: Need amp assistance...

if you were to get 2 of either of the 300's then you would run them straight, one amp to one sub.
if you were to get either of the 500's then you would run that one amp to one sub and the other sub in parallel off of the first.

get an amp to match the rms of the subs, it doesn't matter if its the same brand, as long as the amp meets the subs rms at the desired ohm load..........

alpine makes nice amps, but they are overpriced IMO, better for the price, whats your price range?

and i'd have to unrecomend the audiobahn amp

Re: Need amp assistance...

rectangular is better than square. try to stay away from square boxes to avoid standing waves, (cancelled/reinforced tones @ various freqs.)
the literature that comes w/your subs should have a few different specs. for optimal enclosure dimensions, (ported, slotted & sealed boxes), and a description of how each type of box affects the overall sound of their subs
