Questions

What types of paints do you guys use to paint your vehicles? Is there a tutorial on painting by chance? Would Krylon Interior / Exterior paint be acceptible? Also is there any way to remove all of the plastic pieces from the metal portion of the vehicle? (IE: Headlights, Tail Lights.)

Re: Questions

Also I'm so far using Krylon Interior / Exterior Flat Black Paint. The stuff that drys in 12 minutes or less. Is it good for diecast applications?

Re: Questions

I suggest spending a little more money and go with Tamiya.

Personally I use Tamiya, HoK, PPG, DuPont and a few others.

As far as parts removal, Xacto knife, some precision cuts, and effort should work well.

Re: Re: Questions

I prefer autopaint found at such places as wal-mart, advance auto parts, and autozone. They should work pretty well and come in spray cans.

Re: Questions

I was considering auto paint, but as I had the Krylon Flat Black lying around the house I decided to use it on the hood. So far everything is going well, but after 2 light coats it looks like it might need a light sanding.

Any suggestions, or tutorials on how to do carbon fibre?

Re: Re: Questions

I know of carbon fibre decals (they don't look quite like it though) or just black paint.

Re: Questions

Yeah I went with the flat black. I added a clear coat to it originally, but it made it look too much like black paint. I however didn't use a primer, and now I'm thinking I should have, even though I'm only painting the hood right now.

Re: Questions

How can I stop the paint from pigeon holing? Like after 3 coats, and some good fine grit wet sanding if you look closely it has tiny little holes in the paint.

Solved by using primer and decent paint.

Oh, as far as CF decals. I have seen many decals that look excellent. What scale are you talking about. Try SMS (Scale Motorsport), HLJ (Hobby Link Japan), or SAS (Scale Auto Style).

Re: Questions

I'm doing a 1 18th scale. Hmm good paint huh? Well I never came across any of the brands you mentioned, and most of the car guys here in Winnipeg recommend Krylon as a good quality paint.

Re: Questions

Quick questions. How can you make a clear object (windshield) clear again? Mine is scratched up. Also any way to remove major scratches from the paint without repainting?

Re: Questions

lol yeah I'm waiting to score another set of rims for it. It did however get a Recaro Racing seat in the progress. Do you know by chance how to fix the windshield issue?

Re: Questions

Use toothpaste to polish out the scratches on the windshield, try it on a scrap windshield if you have one. It's basically a fine abrasive. Been a while, can't recall exactly a brand, but the basic stuff. I'm sure ULTRA WHITE won't do anything special .
