windows fogging up REAL bad

92 Olds Cutlass Supreme S 3.1L...

This problem started without any warning or anything happening before hand.

I was driving my car and the windows started fogging up starting down by the dash and totally fogging up in about ten fifteen seconds. I turned on the defogger on high, hot and tried wiping it off with a cloth. After wiping it off the window fogged up again within seconds, and only after having the defogger on for about ten minutes did it finally go away.
Now every time I start my car and begin driving it, the window will start fogging up again. Even with the defogger on the window does not totally clear. Every successive time driving there is a smell of coolant that comes and goes. The first time this happened was on the starting end of a five hour trip. The actual running of the car does not seem to be effected the coolant level is fine and the hoses are hot and seem to be flowing fine. No warning lights have come on, and everything else seems fine.
I just can't see very well for the first five to ten minutes of driving. Also there is that smell of coolant.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

the same thing happened to my 87 cutlass. your heater core may have a leak and is basically steaming your windshield up. pull the heater core and see if it leaks, cause that could be your window problem. good luck. but to check, try usin the ac or cold air first and see what it does, but im sure its the heater core...

You can bypass the heater core in the short term. That will at least let you drive the car with fogging. Just route the heater hose outlet back into the inlet where they go through the firewall.

Re: windows fogging up REAL bad

yea you could by pass the heater core but why not just go to the junk yard and pick up a used one for 45 dollars are so
P.S dont buy a heater core untill you are sure that it is leaking check for rust around the hole heater core make sure there is not a hole in itthen take my advice and go to the heater core used

Re: windows fogging up REAL bad

If you still have this car, your problem is you heater core is leaking.

Please check the date of the last post. Last post was over 2 years ago. Sorry but the rule of thumb is not to resurrect any threads over 3 months old. Thread closed.
