Re: 1995 caravan wiper removal

The wiper is held on with a hex nut and is underneath a thin metal outer molding. Pry up on the moulding to get at the nut.
This is a common problem. The wiper arm is made of aluminum and it mounts on a splined fitting. This strips out real easy from stress if you manually move the wiper or hold the wiper while its moving.

Some tricks to repair: use masking tape to buildup the stripped out area on the wiper arm where it mounts to the splines or obtain a replacement arm from the junk yard.

how do you get the thin metal up to access the nut without damaging the plastic on the hood of the van??

Examine the end of the wiper arm where it must secure to the mounting spline. The nut is under a thin metal cap that is clamped on over the wiper arm and wiper arm mount. There is no plastic here. Pry up this cap with a small screwdriver.
