Ferrari 512BB

This Ferrari 512BB is from Marui.
The body is warped and parts do not fit well. It is an old kit so that is expected.

What was not expected is this. Can someone tell me the reason?
I did everything I have been doing since day one; which is wash the parts with dishwashing liquid, dry and primer. It looks like some kind of chemical reaction. It just won't cover even if I keep applying heavier coats. It just covers the surrounding.

Sorry, can't help you with that specific problem.

But it's a nice Ferrari! I have the same kit as well and it's supposed to be the best kit of the 512BB.
Ever thought of taking a fully detailed engine from the Tamiya Testarossa or Mythos and thus enhancing the kit quite a lot? Shouldn't be too difficult...

Anyway, good luck on this one!

All the best, Marc

I'm keeping same kit. Just my conjecture, that shiny body was coated by some kind of paint
and maybe oily elements were sank into plastic body through long time.
I think you could cover it with more primer.

Re: Ferrari 512BB

I have that exact same problem with my Supra body. There's this dry film of white that looks like residue.

Thanks for your suggestions. I guess this old residue on the plastic is too strong for my regular dishwashing liquid.
I will sand it down, wash it with a stronger dishwashing liquid and primer again.

Re: Ferrari 512BB

oh yeah....
the old marui/tilt kits all came with glossy shiney bodies.
you need to sand that off before primer.

Try Castrol Super Clean. If that doesn't do it, get another model.
