Screeching sound

My car makes a screeching sound only in first gear then goes away, I was told to take it to a transmission shop so that is what I'm doing. I was wondering what could cause this, and how much approx. it would cost to fix? It's an automatic transmission.

Check your belts first. I was not aware transmissions could make a noise like that. I hope it is just a loose belt. Those are an easy fix. GL.

I think there might have been some confusion, the transmission makes a screeching sound in first for about 1 second then stops. I don't know much about cars, but I know it's not the belts plus I already took it to a mechanic and he said to have my transmission looked at, thanks anyways!

I didn't know if KNEW it was the tranny for sure. I was just givin you ideas like >you should check the ujoints too. Maybe a clunk to me sounds like a sqeak to you. I am confused though. If you took your car to a mechanic why would he just say that your tranny needs to be "looked at"? Isn't that whay he was supposed to do?

This was just a general mechanic shop, they recommended I take it to a transmission shop.

That is so crazy it just might work. I hope you get it fixed at a reasonable price. Good luck.

There is no way to accurately diagnose this problem over the internet. Take it to a tranny shop and get it looked at.
