How many MPG do you get on your Tahoe/Yukon?

I'm curious... I have a 200 Tahoe Limited with K&N filter, Flowmaster muffler and throttle body spacer. During the Winter months, my MPG is 18-18.5 MPG. During the Summer, it's been around 16-16.5 MPG.

What is the MPG on your Tahoe/Yukon?

Re: How many MPG do you get on your Tahoe/Yukon?

The BEST I have ever seen my 98 Tahoe get was 15.5, and my average by now is 13ish. Since I bought it I have put bigger Tires (-1 mpg), Synthetic oil (+1 Mpg) a new PCV valve and a K&N drop in air filter (combined +1Mpg) and im still only at 13 tops!

With 130+ views, I am unimpressed with only 18 votes!!! come on guys and gals, we all know these things are gas hogs, but share with us your results; or is it that you are getting below 13MPG, I'll be honest, I tend to get around 12!

Managed almost 14 mpg driving from central Texas to NY during one leg when I didn't have to use A/C (over $300 in gas for that trip). Otherwise, usually around 11-13 depending on type of driving. I've got nine inches of lift and 35" tires on this thing, so i'm not too disappointed.

Tried the perf. tuning on mine a few months ago, no improvement in mileage and made the engine knock (yes, I put in the highest octane, even tried booster, and still knocked). So I just reset it back to 87.

And one more note, if someone (i.e. muffler shop owner) tells you to put in a muffler with more back pressure (as opposed to cats only or a fiberglass packed muffler) to get improved gas mileage...this doesn't work from my experience. I had no muffler on mine and was talked into a flowmaster or something like that. No better gas mileage and my tahoe sounds like a wimpy racecar now.

Re: How many MPG do you get on your Tahoe/Yukon?

I get up to 17.5 MPG on the freeway and around 13 MPG around town. Freeway MPG is based on getting 365 miles or so on a fillup of 20.5 gallons. I use 91 fuel. Truck is bone stock.

Can't resist... 22 mpg highway but that's on a 6.5td 2dr 4x4 (stock except for K&N drop-in air filter which I've wrapped with about ten feet of surgical gauze and sprayed with K&N filter oil to act as a pre-filter); 30 gal tank.

Re: How many MPG do you get on your Tahoe/Yukon?

Just bought a 99 4dr 4x4 with 73K miles, first tank got 13.6, second tank was towing a 3000# travel trailer and was 10.1mpg. Running Toyo A/T LT 30" tires (stock size).

Magic Number = 15.57

I'm new to this forum but I've been a Tahoe owner for four years and you might say I'm a bit anal b/c I have actually tracked MPG for EVERY single tank of fuel that I've put in my truck since I bought it used in September 2000. Here are the stats:

Vehicle: 1997 2WD 4Door LT Tahoe
Mods: Not much - K&N Air filter, Edelbrock struts, Borla cat-back dual exhaust
Tires: 235/75/15 Bridgestone Duellers until recently I switched to new 255/70/15 Firestone Destination LE's
Miles Driven - 53,297.8 since I've owned it
Gallons - 3,422.1
MPG Average - 15.57
Average price per gallon - $1.36 (87 octane)
Cheapest price per gallon - $0.92 per gallon on 11/31/2001
Most Expensive price per gallon - $1.87 per gallon on 05/27/2004
Best tank of fuel -
Worst tank of fuel - 12.62 MPG, January 2004
Best tank of fuel - 18.48 MPG, August 2003
Most gallons squeezed into the tank - 28.761 Gallons on 1/19/2001 (yea, I'm thinking I had to be pretty close to empty there!)
Truck mileage today - 132,500 miles
