Paint Problem

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo - 70,000 miles - black in color. At about 55,000 miles I noticed a dull spot about the size of a half dollar in the paint on the hood. I read the warranty info and it didn't sound like Isuzu would remedy the problem so I just let it go. I figured the lack of an insulator being under the hood may have attributed to the problem due to excessive heat. I wax the car regularly and tried to buff this out with wax but was not successful. Today, I washed the car and noticed some high and low spots in the clearcoat on the hood and roof. Some of the low spots are dull like the spot on the hood that initially appeared. Waxing is not going to help the appearance of this either. Anybody out there had a similar problem? If so how did Isuzu handle it (if you contacted them)? Was your vehicle under or out of warranty at the time? Was the problem with a 2001? Any info on a recall? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Have you tried having your vehicle polished??? Taking it to a detailer and having them buff if reheats the clearcoat up and can help level surfaces and smoothen out blemishes.

Don't ever expect a recall on something like paint though. Those are usually for safety issues. Sounds almost like it is oxidized in some way. Do you park under a tree with sap at work/home? I could ask a few more questions, but it sounds like you clean the vehicle often. You should go to the store and try the Miguires 3 step system. It has the polish the wax cleaner and wax. It will help with the clear coat. Do you have more then just the clearcoat missing?

Have a Black Rodeo with similar issue -- showed up around 75,000miles.

Hood had a small dull spot I attributed to some bird droppings or tree sap.... Wash and wax to no avail.

As time passed it changed to more white in color to the point where the color is effected. Does not look good. I don't think wax will do the trick. Suggestions for color fix?

I wish I saw this post earlier. I have the same thing and then some. My "spot" is toward the passenger front, near the battery. But that's only the beginning. I've been noticing what I thought to be lint embedded in the many wax layers over time. Well, I decided to really detail the truck so I clayed the entire truck, then applied some paint cleaner thinking I'll strip it down real good and then apply polish and wax. Well, it's not lint. It seems to be a paint defect. I have thousands of these little "cuts" in the paint on the hood, doors, roof and quarter panels...everywhere. The detail worked wonders but now my specs show up even more. Has anyone ever seen this on Rodeos?

My previous Rodeo was a 91 Black Rodeo, I purchased it listed as "dealer demo" vehicle with 7K at the time.

At that time, the roof had exactly as you're describing, I purchased the vehicle only with the allotment of a new thorough paint job. Sure enough Tynan's Isuzu in Colorado threw in a new paint job, a week later I had a VERY shiney black Rodeo.

The texture of the paint from old to new was definitely different. The old had felt gritty/dry, even on the hood that, at the time, hadn't faded. The new was definitely a lot smoother - and in the following 12yrs had never faded, or showed grit.

Wondering if it's a default in the paint.

My 97 Maroon/burgandy Rodeo has the original paint, but so far, knock on wood, has not faded.
